A JOYFUL OLD MAN

As much as I love fashion, art, food, etc... I have a soft spot for old people - joyful old people, to be specific. Today, started off just like any other ordinary day, I somehow decided to go to this tailor that I pass by almost every day. From outside, it looked like a really old and charming tailoring shop. It always catches my eye whenever I passed by when I'm on the way home. It has some kind of retro/vintage vibe that looked very welcoming. I absolutely love how it feels so nostalgic! Reminded me of my grandparents place - a place where I grew up playing in the garden with the chickens running around chasing us. Those were one of my best memories - being a family with all my relatives.

Anyway (trying to stay on topic), today I took the opportunity to get some clothes tailored. So I went. As I stepped in, I was immediately welcomed by a lady (who is i'm guessing around her late 50s and is also a customer there). She seemed reaaallly really friendly and so bubbly! She speaks fluent english too. She helped me communicate with Mr.Pang, the tailor and owner of the place. He doesn't understand much english. So I was really blessed to have that lady there to help me out, if not I would have to struggle to explain to Mr.Pang my tailoring needs.

So I'm looking around the interior and I immediately fell in love with the charm of it. The old people smell, the crooked and small family picture frames on the cracked walls, the dusty shelves and tables that are filled with quirky nick-nacks... I loved every bit of it. And Mr.Pang... Sweet sweet Mr.Pang. I've never seen such a joyful spirit in such an old man before. His happiness is so overwhelming. Just looking at him and (tried) talking to him made me genuinely happy too. It somehow touched my heart. This man who makes just enough to survive to support him and his lovely wife and this little home/shop, is fulfilled and content with his life and is plain happy. I want that.

I want to look at my life and be happy. I want to grow old with my husband and live in a small house and fill it with things that meant something. I want a cluttered mess with raw beauty that you can never buy with money. I want to be less materialistic and look towards a life that is filled with love and people and joy. The simple things in life, you know?

It's so hard to not be materialistic and selfish when we have to strive to be "someone" in this competitive world. But I want to believe that there's always a balance in life. I'm still finding that.. I guess it all boils down to my christian faith. I find myself more happier when I put God first, and let everything else in life fall into its place.

BANANA COFFEE MUFFINS

As I was perusing through my old Frankie Magazine, I came across a yummy-looking spread of cakes and recipes. The one that triggered my taste buds was the Banana Coffee Cake. As seen in the photo above - it looked so gooood. Suddenly I had the urge to bake. And bake was what I did:)

Instead of making a whole cake (which is much more harder and I'm scared of failure), I made muffins! I used this recipe (here), which I found on google. Going through the ingredients, I was happy I had all of it in my pantry. I must say, they were super easy to make and they taste pretty good too. The texture of the muffins are a blend between bread and cake. Odd. But a yummy odd!

BAZINGA!

photos by Serena Gan

Pinafore : Twenty3  |  Lace Shirt : Mom's vintage hand-me-down

If you know where my title came from, then you must be a Big Bang Theory fan too! :) Ever since Mesh introduced to me the show, I couldn't stop watching it. I think I finished all the episodes in 2 months. Crazy. But it's sooo good! Insanely funny and I highly recommend everyone to watch (especially for those who fancy sarcasm). I don't know why but that first photo of me just looks like i'm shouting the word "bazinga"! ...Big Bang Theory overload, definitely :S

. . .

So remember I had a photoshoot with Serena? Here's another batch of photos she helped take for me! I love love love this set of photos! It's rather quirky and odd and definitely something I wouldn't wear on a daily basis. It's...different.. Maybe that's why I'm so intrigued by the outfit/photography/crazy jumping shots. I had tons of fun jumping up and down (in heels, excuse you) like a hyperactive monkey.

RED MEANS GO (HUGO BOSS EVENT)

Finally found some time to blog about the Hugo Boss event I attended last month. I was blessed to have been invited to the Hugo Red launch party. Even more blessed that I could bring Mesh along! What I love about events like this is that I get to meet new people who are (mostly) working in the advertising/design field. And yes, I did meet a few really interesting and friendly people. :)

Moving on to the fragrance! I must say.. Hugo Boss Red is very unique. It changes scent from a citrus-y to a woody smell after spraying it on yourself. How cool is that!? If only I were a guy! I would definitely wear it all the time. Yes, it's a fragrance for men.

So what is the concept behind the fragrance? Red Means Go basically means... to GO on red! Which means to push boundaries. The fragrance is built around two contrasting accords : the 'Solid Chill' accord and the 'Liquid Heat' accord - which reflects the different facets of cold and hot metal.

As seen in the image below,  the 'Solid Chill' accord combines grapefruit and rhubarb to create a bitter fresh accord with a metallic accent that stimulates the underlying strength of solid metal. While the 'Liquid Heat' accord is characterised by cedar wood and hot amber that blend together to convey the heat and fluidity of red-hot metal. The transition between the two states of metal illustrates the idea of adapting under intense pressure; of going beyond natural limits to create something new and unique!

*ps; 'Red Means Go' doesn't apply to traffic lights* :p

A TEA PARTY

photos by me

How lovely is this set up?! My dearest friend Serena is just so talented. She's so good at picking the right props. Today was a very productive day I must say. We finally made time (omg I'm done my semester!!) for this photoshoot we've been planning for a long time now. So here's a little teaser of one (of the three) shoots we did. I am really exhausted now. Modelling for more than 4 hours really drained me. I shall leave you to the photos - enjoy!

LILAC HUES

Knit Sweater : Charlene's Black Loft  |  Floral Crown : Cute Granny Vintage

I can smell the holidays already! It's so close. Just one more subject and I'm done with the semester! A part of me wants to just rest and do nothing during the holidays. But the other part of me wants to do everything. I do have a lot of things planned out for the coming week though - collaborating with my dearest friend, Serena anddd an amazing local photographer whom I just 'met' via facebook. Kind of excited. But right now, I'm really tired from college work. Reminding myself that I'm almost done - sooo soonnn.
